Las Palmas closed in this location awhile back. The restaurant spot is reborn as Ritos! We wanted to try it as we are always on the lookout for another Mexican restaurant. First thing we noticed is several of the employees transferred over from the old restaurant. It was nice to be greeted by some familiar faces. They bring you out 2 salsas. A red and a green. The chips did taste like they were store bought but the salsa made up for it. My wife and I each got one of their combo dinners. They were nothing spectacular and a little dry. I would say about average and not as good as what was served at Las Palmas. My wife did get some skirt steak on her combo that was OUT OF THIS WORLD though. Next visit I will get more of that! I would also like to try their fajitas and some of their shrimp dishes. I will update my review after trying those. Price is good here, you get a lot of food for what you pay for. My firm recommendation though is the skirt steak!

Drove by the place on Wednesday. They had a sign in window $1.00 tacos on Monday. Went there Monday, no sign on window. Went inside, asked if there was any specials today ? They said no.

This is the finest Mexican restaurant I have been to. Food and service were both outstanding. The only problem is that I am totally stuffed. Once I deflate, I will be coming back here again and again.

Had to try the New Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood. Decor was authentic. Ambience pleasant, food above average but nothing special. Big fajita fan, get it in every Mexican restaurant. Flavor was a bit different, got the combo-chicken and shrimp were delicious, steak was not. Too heavy on the veggies, not enough protein. Strawberry margarita was strong and tasty. Flan was yummy for desert. The rest of my party ordered combos, which they enjoyed. Decent with room for improvement

We were so happy when Rito's opened. It was nice to see a lot of the same friendly staff working there. They did do some remodeling and it looks nicer and cleaner. The menu has changed somewhat, and the food has been good and a little cheaper. The margaritas are excellent. We will continue to come here regularly and tell others about this place. We met all three owners, all were very nice. It is nice to see an owner who works very hard and is hands on.

Had to add this to my review. I tried their Fresh, WHOLE, Red Snapper a few weeks ago. It was so good, I have had it 3 times in the past two weeks! It has to be one of the best dishes I have tried in a long time. It is worthy of any great dining restaurants in downtown Chicago at TWICE the price! In the Buffalo Grove area, you have to try their Snapper!

So here's a review on what we had... Chips and Salsa to start. Chips are fine, thick and crunchy with some salt. Salsa, red and green. Both seemed similar in heat (medium at best) and were watery. Started off with a Margarita. "Best Margarita" as they say... Really? Souza Gold is the BEST? Premixed so you can't change it if you wanted too. We were given no other option by our server... Had a Paloma which was super acidic as in a lot of lime or lemon mixed with the squirt. Sour & not good. Shrimp entree was served on rice on top of a bed of iceberg... umm ok, if you want soggy lettuce... bland flavor. Combo fajitas were ok at best. Seemed like generic Mexican spice was sprinkled on so the flavor was less than stellar. The actual chicken was ok, shrimp was generic, and steak quality was good. Flour tortillas added zero gain to the meal. My El Milagro at home seemed better... Had the guacamole which I thought was good & probably the best part of the meal. Bottom line. This place seems like it was made for the suburban american palate. The salsa was not even medium for a real Mexican restaurant. The drinks were generic. The spice & flavors was bland. I see no reason to go back here. I have had better food at Mexico Uno in Palatine and La Presa (which I both like). If you are looking for a quality sit down upper end Mexican spot I'd look elsewhere. The service was good except they were mopping the floors at 8:30 on a Friday night. It made the place smell like a bar cleanup the morning after...detergent... this was while we were still eating with other patrons in the place!!! I really wanted to like this place as it was reccomended by a Mexican friend of mine who knows his food & drink... maybe it deserves a second chance but not before I try other places...

I feel bad giving 3 stars at a restaurant when the service is good. No offense, waitress. You were great. We tried out this restaurant for the first time last night as I had a sudden urge for a margarita. I ordered tacos al pastor and a margarita on the rocks. The meat was very flavorful, but for being advertised as slow cooked I didn't expect it to be as tough as it was. The margarita was advertised as "best in town"- and while it was good (I mean, I drank the whole thing), it still tasted a lot like a mix to me. (Maybe I'm a snob because I don't like my margaritas really sweet, idk.) In the end, great service- our chips and water glasses were always full. Food is pretty good and our bill was lower than we expected, but I'm not sure we would go out of our way to come back.

Formerly Las Palmas. But the new Ritas is better in my opinion. Cleaner look. Same friendly staff. Better menu. Better food.

One visit so far and found a few reasons to return, but Las Palmas fans may be disappointed. I was upset earlier this year when Las Palmas changed their sign from 'remodeling' to 'closed'. When Rito's announced they were moving in I was ready to try them out, though former LP customers have high expectations. Las Palmas had a good size menu but an entire page were fajitas which weren't bad but the abundance of vegetables pushed me away. They had 6-7 solid dishes I had as favorites and the margaritas were great. Rito's menu appears to have a lot of items worth trying without a bunch of similar dishes. Some former LP employees work here which is nice because they are all friendly and hopefully will extend the quality we're familiar with. Their margaritas are strong and for a 27 oz glass at $5 on Thursdays it beats LP. To get an idea how their food is I wanted to try the Rito's combination since it has a little bit of everything. LP's combo had a chimichanga, burrito, and chile relleno with rice and beans, and you can choose/sub the meat. The Rito's combo has a chimichanga, chile relleno, tamale, taco, and enchilada suiza, but you can't substitute any meat though you can get steak added for $1.50 extra. I like hoe this combo was only a dollar more and there was more variety but it just didn't taste as good as LP. Not to say it was bad, just that it didn't compare. The taco didn't have the finely ground colorless ground beef I disliked at LP which is nice but the taco still seemed a little bland. After a couple more visits trying a range of dishes I'll update my review. There are some steak, chicken, taco, and fish dishes I really want to compare to LP's versions.

Buffalo Grove is so lucky to have Ritos!! Food is just FANTASTIC!! Fresh guacamole made in front of you, right at your table!! So you can pick your own ingredients. Margaritas on the rock are a must, ask for the flavoured ones too, no regrets on the frozen strawberry one. I had the carne gratinada, a nice steak topped with cheese, salsa, rice and beans. We also had chicken fajitas, yuuuummmyyy! Of course leaving room for flan and sopaipillas was a must. Loved the openess of the bar. Can i give it a 10*

Not too bad! Nothing to go absolutely CRAZY about, but then again this was my first time here. I would definitely come again but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way just to eat here if I were craving Mexican food. Although their dishes are very big, you get what you paid for! And they have lots to choose from, along with their drinks. Plus it's all very authentic which makes it so much better. Maybe I'll go back to get a better taste!!

I would not recommend this place, it's terrible. Food was bad. I had shrimp salad, it was only taste of mayo. My friends got beef and deluxe fajitas, and it did not work. The best part when we ask for check, they added tips more than 20%, but we were 4 person. Never ever!!!!!

Great food! The chipotle tacos are delicious with just the right amount of heat. As always friendly and attentive service. Love it here - one of our favorite places.

This replacement for the Las Palmas, formerly in this space, seems remarkably similar - the layout is the same but the decor is streamlined, and the menu selections are quite similar. The difference is that now the cooking is better, at least for the items we tried: Shrimp Veracruzana and Carne Asada Gratinada (both $15). Both were top notch. Service, with some of the same staff, is much improved and friendlier. With pricing similar to Grande Jake's across the street, this is a more formal approach to Americanized Mexican dining if you prefer waiter service.

Had dinner at Rito's a couple nights ago. Service Great. Atmosphere was nice. Margarita was awesome and the food was GREAT. My wife and I shared the Molcajete and it was perfect. Great flavor, great spice. Look forward to coming back as soon as we get the chance.

I used to be a big Las Palmas person but now it's like what happened. I do like the remodel that has been done but the name change and bought on some terrible service. The food here has changed a little bit, with Las Palmas it used to be the best Chip and really hot salsa. Now I can't say that, whatever they changed it to is not working out. Also no table side guacamole? What is up with that?? That one of biggest reason to come to Las Palmas, they made the guacamole right in front of you, the way you wanted it. Now you order guacamole and they just bring it from the back, it tasted absolutely terrible, there was taste to it. We asked them to make it spicer and they said no, instead just bought us an side of jalapeños. That is terrible service right there. Also we asked them for extra salsa and all of a sudden they charge extra for salsa. Just for one side. Just couldn't believe it. On top of that, the service was just terrible, they didn't check up on the entire table or refills water. Rito's restaurant is just terrible and a failure compare to Las Palmas.

First time- wont return. Why? Spot lights in ceiling. Simple. Dont like to eat a nice dinner in cafeteria lighting. Not relaxing, no ambiance. Prefer an authentic cantina style decor. Bye Ritos

This was bad. Not horrible, as the beans and the chicken tostada were quite good. But the slow service, toxic drinks, and everything else were terrible. The chipotle chicken was over cooked to the point of fossilization and then soaked in weak bottled barbeque sauce. "You can have a mexican restaurant with bad barbeque, but you can't have a mexican restaurant with bad margaritas." So said the love of my life.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
